Life has thrown me few unexpected changes. At 76 years old I fell and suffered a brain injury. I no longer think or always remember things the way I once did. I am having to relearn how to do things that once came so easily, I took all of that for granted. Earlier in my life I was a National Urban Fellow and ran the Human Relations Departments for a Fortune 500 Corporation. I have always prided myself on my wit and intelligence.
I know I am still the same person. My friends remind me of all the good times together. I enjoy looking at photographs of my family. I love engaging in political discussions around the dining hall in the care facility. That always riles things up a bit. I like to give complements to the people I meet. It may be as simple as I like the color of their shoes, but it always sparks a smile. I am a good listener too, and there are always people who want to talk.
So my life has moved into a different stage, but I still have the ability
to make people around me happy.
